Apple today announced that Apple Campus 2 will be open and ready for employees to begin moving in this April, while also officially naming the site “Apple Park.” The planning and construction of this new campus has taken years.

Moving more than 12,000 employees to the site will take more than six months, the company said, and some smaller building construction and landscaping will continue into the summer.
According to the company’s press release, the campus comprises a main building, a 2.8M-square-foot ring-shaped structure utilizing the largest curved glass panels in the world, the “Steve Jobs Theater” (opening later in the year), a visitors center (Apple Store, cafe; open to public), secure R&D facilities, a 100K-square-foot employee fitness center, paths, an orchard, meadow and pond.
The Steve Jobs Theater, a 20-foot-tall glass cylinder complete with a metallic carbon-fiber roof, will seat up to 1,000 and honor the business leader’s “memory and his enduring influence on Apple and the world.”
“Steve’s vision for Apple stretched far beyond his time with us. He intended Apple Park to be the home of innovation for generations to come,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The workspaces and parklands are designed to inspire our team as well as benefit the environment. We’ve achieved one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the world and the campus will run entirely on renewable energy.”
I think the most interesting feature to me is the ventilation system. Apple says it’ll be a naturally ventilated building so that it doesn’t require any heating or air conditioning for nine months of the year.
