Emmanuella is that little girl who took the internet by a storm with her “this is not my real face” skit and a number of other rib-cracking videos where she and her uncle, Mark Angel have a go at each other on their Youtube channel. Some of them are quite hilarious. I felt nothing short of pride upon hearing about her win and that of other consistent content creators at the just concluded YouTube Sub-Saharan Africa Creator Awards organised by Google to celebrate the incredible creativity and talent on YouTube from across the African continent.
I followed events from the venue on Instagram accounts of my friends Olorisupergal and Sisi Yemmie who got to present an award! Some other leading African YouTube stars including Theodora Lee, Tofo Tofo! Grant Hinds and ‘An African City’ star, Maame Adjei were also in attendance. With awards for 22 categories including the channel in each country with the most subscribers, Google also celebrated a huge milestone for Youtube channel Yellow Brick Cinema with the international Gold Play Button Award for hitting 1 million subscribers.
