TechCity can report that Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai is in Nigeria. He confirmed it this morning via a Tweet.
The Indian American business executive was formerly the Product Chief of Google. Pichai’s current role was announced on 10 August 2015, as part of the restructuring process that made Alphabet Inc. into Google’s parent company, and he assumed the position on 2 October 2015.
While in Nigeria, Pichai, will be speaking at the event organized by Google tagged Google for Nigeria 2017 holding today at Landmark Event Center.
In the official invitation to the event gotten by TechCity, Google Nigeria’s country manager, Juliet Ehimuan, said Africa is experiencing a period of digital growth with almost half a billion people expected to come online by 2020.
“Join us to learn about the latest innovations that are being built for this region and how we can collaborate towards accelerating the digital transformation of Nigeria and Africa,” she said.
Google Nigeria did not reveal its CEO will be attending, it only said the event will open with a keynote where Google global product leaders will reveal Google product roadmap and how they are building a more inclusive internet for everyone.
“This will be followed by a thought leadership event where we’ll hear from the change makers of today and the visionaries of tomorrow who are driving progress and shaping the digital future of Africa,” the country manager added.
