Samsung Pay

Samsung Pay will now allow you withdraw cash at ATMs

Samsung pay is one feature on Samsung’s recent flagships that Nigerians haven’t quite paid attention to and it’s not any fault of ours. Our dear country isn’t yet as cashless as it needs to be for any of us to really pay much attention to the feature.

However Samsung just vamped up what this feature can do in its home country of South Korea by making it possible for users to withdraw cash from ATMs within the country.

What is Samsung Pay?

Samsung Pay is the feature on Samsung’s top tier devices that allows you pay by waving a compatible Samsung smartphone at any cash register that would normally require you to swipe or tap your debit/credit card to pay. It supports both NFC wireless payments (as is the case with Apple Pay and Android Pay) as well as Magnetic Secure Transmissions or MST (which are used by credit and debit cards).

The fact that only Samsung pay supports MST at the moment has given Samsung a big advantage over Android Pay and Apple pay and the reason is simple. Even in developed countries where these payment options are available, not many terminals have Near Field Communication (NFC) chips that are needed to use Apple or Android Pay, but all traditional terminals use MST, thus making it possible to pay with Samsung Pay in more places than its rivals.

Supported devices

The Galaxy S7, S7 edge, S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, S6 active and the Note 5.

When will this feature be available in other countries where Samsung Pay is already available?

No idea. Samsung didn’t say

Why should Nigerians care about this?

You may need the knowledge. Even if it’s just for the purpose of answering a question on Who wants to be a millionaire.

Here’s a video on how it works
