Tecno Phantom Z is the latest offering from Tecno Telecom Limited. The company has been very impressive over the years by delivering quality and affordable smartphones into the hands of customers in emerging markets.
We did the unboxing of the phantom Z and definitely give Tecno a pass on this one. The appearance is so appealing and i can be outright to say that it appeals to everybody no matter the economic class you belong. Talk about design and functionality, to taking quality selfies, this phone can serve every smartphone purpose you would expect. There has been a lot of improvement in the Tecno phones in terms of design, usability and specs, from the Phatom A+ to the R7 which was also released this year and now the Phantom Z. Now lets do a quick run down of specs… you should also watch this space for a full review.
The Z is a dual SIM phone, runs on the Android 4.4 Kitkat, powered by a 2.0 GHz Octa core (8 core) processor, boasts of a 5.2 inch AMOLED (seen on Samsung devices) full HD screen with 1080 x 1920 pixels, It comes with 32 GB internal storage, 2GB RAM, 16MP primary camera with dual flash and an 8MP secondary camera. The secondary camera (front camera), comes with flash which is great news for people who would want to take selfies at night.
Now we unbox…. the phone is beautifully packed in a blue case which houses the Phone itself, a 5,200 mAh power bank and a Smart view cover. Trust me, you begin to have the premium feel right from laying your hands on the pack. I also guess the extra accessories (power bank + Smart cover) will be available for limited units.
Inside the White pack in the above image is the phone itself, the earpiece and charger all packed inside another white case.
Now we have the phone placed on the inner white pack and then you have to open again to see the phone manual, earpiece and charger neatly packed in white cases, place on the inside.
Pulling out the earpiece from its case, we got a little bit of surprise at the design. The earpiece has a beautiful wood finishing, something different from what you get from every other smartphone. In fact i have never seen an earpiece as fine as this… not even from the ‘big boiz’ in the smartphone business.
The phone has a faux leather backuses a micro SIM card with the port just on the left side of the phone. This is also the first time we will have a Tecno phone carrying a SIM port as a tray on the side, something similar to what we saw on the Infinix Zero. We also found a SIM extractor, a customised micro SIM adapter, warranty card and user guide (manual) inside the manual pack.
The SIM extractor will be used to pull out the SIM tray when you want to insert or remove your SIM card. At first i wondered what the micro SIM adapter was doing there and then i thought Tecno did this so that people who buy Micro SIM cards or cut their mini SIM into micro can easily use the adapter perhaps they ever want to switch to a phone with a mini SIM tray. Good one from Tecno.
So there you have it, the phantom Z is such a beautiful phone when you look at it and also have a feel in the hand but you know it doesn’t end there so you have to watch out on this space for the full phone reviewwhere i will analyse the performance and give you every other information you need to know.
We also promise you a video review so… stay tuned
