So, I’m not sure why Samsung named it the K Zoom. Of all the names on the face of the earth, a K Zoom? Sounds like the name of a bike or a brand of Kellogs cereal. Lol. But in other very important news, while we are still basking in the euphoria of the S5’s amazing features, Samsung decide to do a double on us by releasing the Galaxy K Zoom (ugh, this name!) into the market. So here is a brief on what all the fuss about the K Zoom (cringe) is.
- Home Button: Press to return ‘home’ and hold down to view recent apps.
- Front facing Camera (Selfie): 2mega pixel
- Back Camera + Flash: 10x optical zoom plus lens.
- Volume rocker: Up and down
- Power on/off button
- Camera button: (This is new!)
- Headphone jack
- USB Charging port
- Memory card slot (cards up to 64GB in size are supported)
These days, people take pictures with their phones and these shots sometimes cannot be differentiated from the ones you take using a professional camera. This is what the Samsung K Zoom boasts of.
It has an impressive 10x optical zoom which is operated by the volume up and down buttons. That gets you up close with your subject without losing image quality. It has plenty of power for most tasks and runs on the Android Kitkat O.S. along with a 6-core processor. Inside it is a 20.7-megapixel image sensor, along with optical image stabilization for steady pictures, that even at full zoom, are not blurred.
A bit bulky and weighing 200g — 7g lighter than the S4 Zoom the K Zoom is 16.6mm thick across most of the body and 20.2mm thick at its widest point (where the camera optics are installed). The K Zoom has a 4.8-inch display, which is plenty of room to frame your shots and poke around at the various on-screen camera settings. 1,280×720-pixel resolution, which gives you a pixel density of 305 pixels per inch. It comes with photo modes/standards as panorama, burst and HDR. It doesn’t have the same always-on HDR as the S5 and photos taken in HDR mode take seconds longer to preview.
The Galaxy K zoom is compatible with the latest Galaxy Gear Fit and Gear 2. It features a powerful Xenon Flash that gives brighter illumination and more natural colour to images. Other key features of the K Zoom include the latest Galaxy smartphone’s ultra-power saving mode that shuts down key functions of the device to allow use of the device when battery life is very low. There’s also an S Health Lite application that provides users with personalized fitness and lifestyle coaching as well as a ‘Kids Mode’ feature which allows users to share their devices with kids when the device’s parental control access is turned on. There’s a dimpled, textured effect around the back, which feels nice to the touch and gives some extra grip.
The Galaxy K Zoom is available in white, black and blue, and a chunky metal trim around the edges. Samsung has done well with the design of the K Zoom and technically speaking, it’s actually a better sidekick for the S5 than what the S4 Zoom was to the S4
