Emeraldedge Consults to host World Teachers Day celebration in Lagos

Technology is taking the centre stage nowadays and everyone is left with no other choice than to join the bandwagon. While teenagers are giving relationship advice on twitter but ignoring friend requests from parents and teachers on Facebook.

Hmm! I remember saying my teachers were the best in the whole (wild) wide world. I am not sure many students even say stuff like that anymore. Too occupied with asking for follow back on twitter or like for like on instagram. Sigh. Truth is, they feel like they are in a different world; one they can’t share with the older generation and in a lot of ways that is affecting the educational sector. Crippling it in fact.

It is in this vein that Emerald Edge, an educational consulting firm have decided to put together a Tech Seminar on the 5th of October 2015 which also happens to be the World Teachers day as their way of ‘contributing’ to the overhauling of the African educational system.

The slogan for this year’s World Teachers’ day is Empowering teachers, building sustainable societies and this seminar aims to sensitize teachers on the place of information technology in education. This generation has more tech savvy students than teachers and it is important that teachers are on top of their game by letting them realize the importance of the role they play in changing the world, one child at a time

The seminar will bring together stakeholders in the educational sector to begin to deliberate on issues affecting both the public and private sector, followed by a call to action that would make us all accountable for the improvement we seek in the sector. It is scheduled to hold at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Conference and Exhibition Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, by 8am.

The speakers for the event have been carefully selected and they include Juliet Binitie from Institute for National Transformation, Prince Nnagozie Ochi of B2G Projects among others. There will also a panel discussion where relevant issues relating to the educational sector will be discussed.

This event is open to the general public and as a matter of fact, we are all teachers in one capacity or the other.
