Breaking: Twitter Is Removing the ‘Favorite’ Icon

Reports at this time put it that Twitter is removing ‘favorite’ to replace it with ‘like’ just like your Facebook status option. According to them, the golden star which symbolizes a favorited tweet was confusing and as such made the change necessary. The new ‘like’ button will be a love/heart icon and will be rolled out first on the iPhone and Android twitter apps before twitter clients like Tweetdeck, etc.  Twitter product manager Kumar Akarshan is quoted on Forbes as saying, “the heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people, and in our tests, we found that people loved it… you have embraced hearts in a big way on Periscope, and we are delighted to bring them to Twitter and Vine, making them the common language for our global community.”

This change comes on the heels of a newly added feature on the social media app called ‘Poll’, where users are able to run user-based opinion polls by ‘voting’ one of two given options. In the past, polls were run by asking followers to Retweet for one option or Favorite for the other.

I thought a ‘retweet’ meant I liked a post and a ‘favorite’ meant I loved it? Sigh. Dear Twitter, ajuwaya abeg! Sorry, as you were!
