Google has officially begun the Gemini Live rollout for free Android users, making the new feature accessible to a wider audience. This innovative update allows users to interact with the digital assistant in a more conversational manner, enhancing their overall experience.
Gemini Live offers ten voice options for all responses within the app, making conversations seamless and engaging. Users can not only input text but also operate the assistant hands-free, allowing it to function even while the phone is locked or in the background.
Initially launched for Gemini Advanced subscribers in August on select Pixel and Samsung devices, Gemini Live is now expanding to free users on Android. Observations from 9to5Google confirmed that the feature is available on devices like the US Pixel 6 Pro, where users can see a new waveform icon with a sparkle in the bottom-right corner of the interface.
Once activated, Gemini Live provides a quick tutorial to help users select their preferred voice. The assistant responds to voice commands, allowing users to turn off the microphone by simply saying “stop.” Additionally, a notification labeled “Live with Gemini” allows users to exit the full-screen mode easily.
Although the feature is not yet available for all free Android users, Google plans to expand its rollout in the coming days. Gemini Live is expected to launch on iOS as well, but it is currently unavailable on Apple devices. The addition of a direct home-screen shortcut for Gemini on the iPhone app indicates that Google is preparing for broader integration.
Gemini Live is part of a series of enhancements Google is making to its applications, including Gmail’s new Gemini-powered “Polish” feature for writing and editing emails.
With the rollout of Gemini Live for free Android users, Google is set to revolutionize how users interact with their digital assistant. As the feature becomes widely available, users can look forward to a more dynamic and hands-free experience with Gemini.
