Normal Prevents Apps from Drainig Your iPhone Battery

A new iPhone app called Normal, tells you which app to kill in order to save your battery life. Even after closing apps on your phone, some continue running in the background and drain the battery quickly. On your own, it’s difficult to trace which app is sucking so much power.

Other apps just tell you what’s sucking all the power, but Normal takes it a step further by identifying the drainage culprits. The app was recently launched on iOS and goes for 99 cents (that’s less than N160). The app draws data from other users and offers specific advice on personalization of the phone settings for the battery draining apps.

Normal provides information, suggesting the apps that should be powered down immediately after use. For instance it could suggest shutting down Instagram in order to gain two hours of battery life.

Adam Oliner and Jacob Leverich are the two computer scientists behind this innovation. It was developed at Kuro Labs with resources from University of California at Berkeley. Adam and Jacob decided to embark on such research in a bid to determine the ‘’normal’’ battery life for electronic devices, hence Normal, the name of the app.

Apple plans to introduce this feature to the next iOS upgrade, iOS 8. It should be available and launched later this year.
