7am: Battery full
10:30am: Battery running low
This happens to many of us. I always marvel when my phone battery runs low fast and I have to get a power plug to charge it back up. Although with my phone (HTC One X) I found out that whenever I enable mobile data, the phone’s battery drains immediately.
As usual, there is an app for everything! So you really don’t have to troubleshoot by yourself. Apps make our lives much easier. If only I could create an app that could get all the work done for me at office; that would be so grand… sigh… if wishes were horses……
There are many apps in Play Store that help optimize and minimize battery consumption; let’s take a quick look at the android battery life monitor app –
Created by Mobile Enerlytics, a four-person startup in Purdue’s Research Park incubator at Purdue University, Estar identifies power-hungry apps on your phone and proffers energy saving alternatives.
Once Estar is launches, you are given two options. You can either ‘’install energy efficient apps’’ which would direct you to popular news, social and gaming apps that are considered to be ‘’efficient’’ or ‘’stop power-hungry apps’’ which identifies how much of your battery power each app consumes. It also has a blacklist of power-hungry apps like Facebook Messenger showing you how much power you would save by killing each of the apps. You would discover that saving a few minutes here and there could eventually add up to preserve about 2 hours of your battery life.
Mobile Enerlytics company CEO and cofounder Y. Charlie Hu said in a statement: “An effective way to extend a smartphone’s battery life is to provide users with information about applications’ energy efficiency. There are millions of apps in today’s market, and there are several alternatives to almost every popular app.”
