Ahead of February 9th launch, Samsung Galaxy S22 made from Recycled Fishing Nets?

Samsung will be launching its anticipated Galaxy S22 on February 9th, and while this would crown as its latest flagship phone series,  the features have leaked extensively. Well, that’s what happens with top phone brands, of which Samsung is unarguably one. As we all know, Galaxy S devices are rated the highest-specced non-folding phones; it is also predicted that subsequently in the year, major smartphone manufacturers would be taking a cue from the S devices.

Speaking of leaked features, here is what we know so far about the incoming Galaxy S22;

Samsung utilized a ‘new material’ for this product,  one made from plastic in discarded fishing nets. According to Samsung, it’ll soon “incorporate repurposed ocean-bound plastics” across its whole product lineup.

Galaxy S22 happens to be the first beneficiary of this. However, it is unclear how much of this material was used in production or in what parts. Bet we will find out all there is to it on February 9th.

Backing this up, Samsung said in a blog post, “…ghost nets pose a threat to marine life and coral reefs. These discarded fishing nets are disrupting the delicate balance of our environment at an alarming rate, collecting and repurposing these nets are vital first steps in keeping our oceans clean as well as preserving the planet and our collective future.”

According to a report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 640,000 tons of fishing nets are discarded in the oceans every year. This move by Samsung is commendable and we anticipate more light would be shed during the launch.

Speculations also have it that the Galaxy S22 would not be the only thing unveiled on the 9th. They are likely to be joined by a new lineup of Galaxy Tab S8 tablets, which would both succeed the Tab S7 devices that debuted in 2020 as well as adding a new, larger “Ultra” branded tablet into the mix.
