Airtel Nigeria has launched a free insurance service to its esteemed customers. In an effort to maintain a top position as the preferred telecom brand in the country, the company decided to partner with two prominent insurance cover providers, MicroEnsure and Cornerstone insurance plc to offer a free insurance product that will have increasing benefits to customers based on monthly airtime recharge.
The product is tagged Airtel Insurance and it covers two events: Death and Hospitalisation. It is the first of its kind in Nigeria and it is also aimed at encouraging the insurance culture among Nigerians. The subscriber qualifies for a cash pay-out in event of death or hospitalisation, depending on the value of airtime recharged each month. The more you recharge, the more cover you have; up to N 500,000 on life cover, and up to N 50,000 per hospitalisation, subject to maximum of 4 hospitalisations per year.
The product has been endorsed by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and it is open to all Airtel subscribers between the ages of 28 and 65 years.
Qualification for the offer is subject to a cumulative minimum recharge of N1,000 per month and this provides life and Hospital cash cover of N100,000 and N10,000 respectively. The cover increases up to N500,000 for life cover and up to N50,000 per hospitalisation, subject to a maximum of 4 hospitalisations per year.
The insurance becomes active on the first day of the month following registration and is subject to a minimum cumulative recharge of N1,000.
