A few months ago, we were given a hint on Twitter, of the brand new Essential phone. Although there were no detailed specifications of the smartphone, gist was everywhere that it could be Samsung and Apple’s first real competitor.
Apart from the fact that I think this smartphone has a boring name (who names their company ‘Essential‘? Makes me feel like I have to own all the products created by them. It is essential to!) Another interesting thing about the Essential is that it was created by the father of Android, Andy Rubin – which begs different questions; Will this be “just another” android phone? Or will Andy Rubin perform another magic and install an Android (Exclusive Essential) OS? LOL!
That aside, Bloomberg tells us that Essential has developed a proprietary magnetic connector for the phone that supports battery charging and also allows the user to add on hardware accessories to increase the phone’s functionality – the modular concept.
From the looks of the phone, we see that it has a very-near-bezel-less design although the screen does leave some bezel at the bottom of the phone. For now, we don’t know how large the screen is, but we hear that the phone will have a larger screen than the iPhone 7 Plus, which has a 5.5inch display.
So far, we have not received details on the smartphone as today is release day, but we wait for full spec information and what not which we will review! Watch this space!
