Apple Find My Share Location: New Feature to Track Lost Items Easily

Apple’s Find My Share Location feature is set to make it easier to track down lost items. This new addition in the iOS 18.2 developer beta lets users create a shareable link to an item’s location, even for people outside their contacts. By expanding location-sharing, Apple aims to simplify recovering lost devices or items like an iPhone, MacBook, or an AirTag.

The Apple Find My Share Location feature allows users to send a link to anyone who may be able to help locate a missing item. For example, if you left an item in a taxi or at the airport, the driver or staff could use the link to track its last location. The link remains active for up to a week, or until the item is back with the user.

Another useful update is the “Share Contact Info” option, which shows contact details such as phone number and email if the owner has added them to the item’s page. This option makes it easy for someone who finds the item to contact its owner.

This upgrade to Apple’s Find My service demonstrates the company’s commitment to improving digital security and item recovery. Previously, the Find My app only allowed users to share an item’s location with people in their contacts. Now, this expanded feature will make it far more convenient for anyone, including strangers who may find lost items, to help return them safely.

Users can also view stats on how many people accessed the shared link, providing insights into recovery efforts. With these updates, Apple is pushing boundaries in digital tracking and item recovery, emphasizing both ease of use and security.
