There are signs everywhere that Apple will soon be rebranding its OS X as MacOS or macOS.
Where exactly did we see those signs?
- When Phil Shiler (Apple SVP of Worldwide Marketing) mentioned macOS during an interview at last years WWDC
- When users received a configuration file that mentioned macOS instead of OS X
- More recently, when a page on Apple’s website said MacOS instead of OS X when trying to explain Apple’s environmental initiatives
- Some even say there is a mention of MacOS buried in the library files in the OS X 10.11.4
And we think the name change makes a lot of sense for two reasons. First, because this won’t be the first time Apple rebrands its OS for Mac and second because the name ‘Mac OS’ will be consistent with the company’s current OS nomenclature where the OS on the Apple TV is the ‘tvOS’ and the OS on the Apple watch is the ‘watchOS’ and the OS on the iPhone and iPad is…..iOS.
So while this ‘news’ might not seem like a big deal, we think it’s worth mentioning.
Least I forget to mention, rumors say Apple is going to make this name change announcement at this year’s WWDC in June. Apple we’re listening…..
