BlackBerry has endured a tough few months. Not only did its release of its messaging app, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), on Android and iOS degenerate into a failed attempt, it’s recently been under scrutiny during rumoured talks of its potential sale, whether in part or wholly, to either Cisco Systems, Google or SAP. With all this action and the impending downsizing of its global workforce, it’s hard to see how any work could have been done to fix the issues seen on BBM when it was leaked a few weeks ago. But According to reports from Reuters BlackBerry will finally launch the BBM app for Android and iOS devices within the next few days. The original idea was to launch both clients on September 21st, but as we know – that hasn’t happened after a leaked version of BBM for Android caused issues on BlackBerry’s servers.
BlackBerry’s Chief Marketing Officer also mentioned that there are 6 million Android and iPhone users that have registered to be informed when BBM is released, so clearly there is interest in the messaging platform, but we’ll have a few days to wait and see if this release occurs without issues this time.
