ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence tool which answers questions similar to how a human would has crashed. Having been active everyday since Wednesday, November 30, 2022, the chatbot has transformed how people use search and do research.
ChatGPT had recently begun giving a warning message that it was receiving very many requests and that it would require a bit more time before responding to newer conversations.
Now however, the artificial intelligence tool has gone completely MIA with a new notification in tow.
A message on the ChatGPT site admits that the chatbot is down and explained that the downtime owed to huge demand, adding that the team was working hard to fix it. The comical message also teased that “time is needed for the servers to catch up,” giving credence to earlier reports that over a million people were using ChatGPT daily. Users would fill in their email address to be notified when the bot returned.
This is the second time the chatbot will crash after a first blackout in December 2022. Even though at the time, it was not half as popular as it is now.
After it went viral last year, many content creators and entrepreneurs alike began to make a business out of ChatGPT’s capabilities. Despite the chatbots occasional gaffes and its published limitations, many swore by its potential and usefulness.
Meanwhile, Microsoft had announced it would integrate ChatGPT into its search engine, Bing and is reportedly in talks to invest $10billion into the product for 75% of its profits until there is ROI. Both companies have yet to confirm or deny this development. All handles relating to OpenAI and ChatGPT have also kept mum over the blackout.
While ChatGPT remains inaccesible, fingers are crossed on what its return would produce. A pay wall? Better responses? The possibilities are endless. Just like the idea of the product itself. For now, it is back to original compostions and whatnot.
UPDATE: ChatGPT is back up but is still experiencing some lag in responding to queries/requests. It also says old conversations are temporary unavailable.
You gave an update at the end that it is back up. As at today, January 12th, mine is still down. Could it be that this does not affect all users the same way as their poem said?
The site has been fluctuating for days now; one minute it’s working, the next, it’s crashed. I sincerely hope they have not bitten more than they can chew.
