Elon Musk announces TruthGPT, a ChatGPT alternative

Weeks after raising concerns over the hazards and potential dangers of AI on society, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk has announced he is launching his own AI platform.

“I’m going to start something which I call TruthGPT or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe,” Musk declared in a Fox News interview with Tuck Carlson on Monday.

Musk said he wants to create “a third option” that could challenge Open AI and Google.

Musk claimed that Open AI, the company he confounded before his 2018 exit, and the brain behind ChatGPT, trained the AI to lie and be politically correct. He also mentioned that Open Ai has become a “closed source, “fun – profit organization”

Musk continues to uphold his concerns about the danger of developing giant AI systems despite his active involvement in the generative AI training race.

“AI is more dangerous than, say, mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production,” Musk said in the Fox News interview. “It has the potential of civilizational destruction. “

Musk however believes that his AI platform is different and may even be the to safety with giant AI systems, as he mentioned in the interview;

“I think that this might be the best path to safety in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans because we are an interesting part of the universe,” he said.

There are concerns that Musk’s pursuit of this AI bid may add to the growing concern about his effectiveness as CEO of Twitter, Tesla, SpaceX and two smaller companies. At the moment, some investors are concerned that he already has too much on his plate.

Their concerns may not be baseless after all as Musk disclosed during his interview that Twitter which he had acquired for $44billion only last year, is currently worth even less than half of the cost of acquiring it.

Musk had earlier launched an artificial intelligence corporation he called X.AI based in Nevada and merged Twitter with his X-corp.
