Elon Musk sets Guinness World Record for losing the most money in history

Twitter and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has lost so much money, he broke a Guinness World record while at it. The tech entrepreneur now holds the world record for LARGEST LOSS OF PERSONAL FORTUNE IN HISTORY. Musk reportedly lost approximately $182 billion since November 2021 but some reports put the figure at around $200 billion.

According to Guinness World records, the former record holder was Japanese tech investor, Masayoshi Son, CEO of Softbank whose net worth declined from a peak of $78 billion in February 2000 to $19.4 billion in July of the same year. Musk’s total losses far surpass the previous record of $58.6 billion, set by Masayoshi Son in 2000. In the year 2000, the situation at Softbank was so volatile that Son’s net worth sometimes shifted by as much as $5 billion in a day.

Despite the plunge in prosperity, Tesla remains the most valuable car company in the world, with a market cap over $100 billion larger than their closest competitor, Toyota and even though Musk has lost more money than any human in history, he is still rich enough to be the world’s second-richest person.
