As part of fulfilling his promise to make X an all – encompassing social media platform, tech billionaire Elon Musk has unveiled his plans to introduce audio and video calling features on X.
The announcement was made in a post on his X handle last week.
He also highlighted in the post that this new feature will have no compatibility issues across a wide range of devices. It works on iOS, Android, Mac and PC.
According to the CEO, the audio and video calls do not need phone numbers to work, emphasizing that “X is the effective global address book “
The tweet read ;
“Video & audio calls coming to X:
– Works on iOS, Android, Mac & PC
– No phone number needed
– X is the effective global address book
That set of factors is unique.”
From snippets shared by twitter designer Andrea Conway, the call interface looks rather familiar.
Similar to that of other apps that offer in-app call features, the app gives the user options of video or audio calls from the DM section.
Elon Musk has been doing a lot to achieve his dream of making X the “everything app.”
Just weeks ago, X announced various improvements to the platform.
They include;
-premium subscribers can now upload long videos of up to 2 hours in duration,
-enhanced quality of live broadcasting from mobile devices,
– immersive video player for Android and iOS,
-users can speak in and co-host Spaces on the web. supporting millions of participants.
The CEO is quickly moving on from those with the announcement of the call features .
Musk has not stated if the new feature will be available for all X users or limited to the blue tick subscribers only.
The platform has not declared a launch date for this new feature, but Musk has assured that the feature is available and ready to roll out anytime soon.
Any of the upcoming updates is expected include the new feature.
