Twitter is reported to have laid off about 3,700 people from its workforce early this month, only to reach out to dozens of them requesting their return. The request to return was as a result of the company admitting that it fired some people in error or concluding that these people were too essential to the changes its CEO, Elon Musk wants to make.
Twitter reduced its workforce as a way to reduce operational cost after Musk acknowledged that Twitter was losing $4m a day. Many employees learned they lost their job after their access to official communication channels, like email and Slack, were suddenly suspended.
Meanwhile, Musk’s goal of adding verification for members of its monthly subscription service is being delayed after its November 7th deadline to avoid potential issues during the US midterm elections happening today.
In other developments, Elon Musk is curbing impersonation on Twitter by announcing that “fake” handles that do not specifically state they are “parody” accounts will be suspended permanently
