Elon Musk rebrands Twitter with “X” logo as part of “X – The Everything App” project

Rebranding Twitter to X Corp comes after Elon Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, where he stated that “buying Twitter was an accelerant to creating X, the everything app.”

After teasing the “death of birds” over the weekend, Twitter CEO Elon Musk has made true his word to revamp the iconic Twitter logo. Musk replaced the popular bird icon with a simple “X” logo, explaining that the logo which currently appears only on the desktop version of Twitter is an interim design.

According to Musk and Linda Yaccarino on Twitter, “X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.”

This rebrand from Twitter to X Corp comes after Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in 2022, where he stated that “buying Twitter was an accelerant to creating X, the everything app.”

Elon Musk’s “X – The Everything App” aims to bring together multiple functionalities into a single platform, much like China’s popular WeChat. WeChat had in 2014 tried to penetrate the Nigerian market but failed in its efforts. The app’s success in China and other parts of Asia in offering a wide array of services, from social media and messaging to e-commerce and banking, may be Musk’s ultimate inspiration.

Musk’s choice of the letter “X” as the name of his parent company X Corp or x.com has stirred concerns. Some argue that “X” might not be the most appealing letter in the English alphabet, as it can be associated with negative connotations. Words like “danger,” “X-rated content,” “no,” and negativity are often linked to the letter.

On her part, Yaccarino, the new Twitter boss whose voice has been an echo since she was named CEO by Musk said, “Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”
