Facebook launches Notify – it’s own notifications app

Notify

Facebook this Wednesday announced the launch of a new iOS app called ‘Notify’. The app is designed to send notifications of news and other topics to users.

Facebook says that the app will allow users to select companies they’d like to hear from or topics they’d like information about so that they can receive notifications whenever related updates are available.

Over 70 companies are partnering with Facebook for the launch of this app, they include entertainment based organizations like Comedy Central, news based companies like Huffington Post, magazine publishers like Harper’s Bazaar, service-based organizations like Headspace and even shopping based websites like Racked.

When a user logs into Notify, they’ll be required to select what outlets they’re interested in and then select what ‘stations’ from the outlet that they’d like to receive notifications from. Notify also provides station suggestions based on each user’s Facebook profile. All notifications will  be delivered directly to the user’s phone lock screen and clicking on a notification will take the user to the outlet’s website where they can now read the article or view the video.

Would users quickly adopt Notify? Only time will tell. Though it may seem that users may not notice the app a midst the plethora of  push notification apps already available, who’s to say that Facebook wouldn’t corner us into using Notify like it cornered us into downloading its messenger app.

Well like I said, only time will tell.
