In a blog post released a few days ago, Facebook announced that it will soon release a new live streaming feature to its mobile apps called, Live Video. This live streaming feature which has already been rolled out with a small percentage of users in the U.S on iPhones, will allow users broadcast and share real time videos with others.
To share Live Video, users will have to tap on Update Status and then select the Live Video Icon. Users will also be given an option to write a quick description and choose the exact people they want to share the live video with before going live.
During broadcast, users can see the names of friends tuning in, the number of life viewers and even a real-time stream of comments.
Users can also view the live videos from friends as well as those of public figures whom they follow in their news feed. In addition, when watching a live video, users can tap the Subscribe button so that they’ll be notified the next time the broadcast goes live.
In the same post, Facebook announced that it had just rolled out a new collage feature on iPhone. This collage feature groups all videos and pictures taken together into a scrolling, moving collage.
While Facebook has not announced when Live Video would be available for all users. it has however said that the collage feature will be rolled out on Android in early 2016.
Considering the sheer size of Facebook’s user base, we think Periscope and Meerkat should get ready for keen competition.
