Ever get stuck in traffic when you’re late for an appointment or you just want to get home quick? You know the idea of your car flying over traffic and landing right in your garage appeals to you.
Just like in sci-fi movies where you have flying cars and drones and tech suits and laser beamed guns with aliens co-existing with man… Well we might not be too far away from that – apart from the alien part though.
AeroMobil, a Slovakian startup, has created a prototype of a flying car called AeroMobil 3.0 – the third prototype to be created after 25 years of research and experimenting.
The flying car was created by Stefan Klein, founder of the Department of Transport Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Slovakia. He started working on the project as far back as 1989 and didn’t get much lead way till 2010.
“We believe personal transportation is about to change forever,” AeroMobil chief executive Juraj Vaculik said at a press conference.
The concept of flying vehicles has always played in the head of man. It wouldn’t take long before the concept gets figured out and flying cars are massed produced. In a bid to reduce traffic congestion, the European Union has supported research in the MyCopter project.
The AeroMobil vehicle is close to being commercially available but certification – which Sloviakia is in the process of granting – would be determined by the laws of other countries.
Surprisingly, the vehicle runs on the regular motor gas – PMS and can fly as fast as 124 miles per hour convening two people. For it to be able to take off, it needs 650 feet (200 meters) and about 164 feet (50 meters) to land.
