Former Lyft employees build YC backed dev tool, Onu

Chine Ikoro and Lindsey Redd have announced that they are building a new platform called Onu backed by YCombinator.

Announcing on Twitter, Redd wrote, “I am excited to announce that @chineikoro and I are part of the YCombinator W23 batch and we are building Onu.”

According to YCombinator, Onu is a developer- first tool that allows engineers to turn the repetitive scripts and workshops they are asked to run for their ops or CX team mates into production-ready internal tools.

Ikoro and Redd are both software engineers who met while working at Lyft 5 years ago. While Ikoro worked on the bikes and scooter team, Redd worked on developer infrastructure and observability before they both went on to work at Stripe.

On the inspiration behind Onu, the duo say it was birthed from their first hand experience with problems working in a fast moving engineering environment without internal tooling. First, tasks that involve both engineering and ops/CX are disjointed and time consuming. Secondly, building internal tools takes a lot of front end work.

They add, “we experienced these problems firsthand while working on fastmoving engineering teams at Lyft and Stripe. Our teams needed internal tooling, but we didn’t have time to build feature-rich admin dashboards.”

With these in mind, Onu is being built to address the following;

Onu will come in handy when you need to onboard new users to your product and send them a welcome email, or you need to cancel a subscription, refund the customer and update your CPM, or maybe just to fix an out-of- sync user account.

Ikoro and Redd officially joined the YCombinator class of 2023 and were welcomed by the accelerator in a tweet that said, “Welcome to YC W23 and congrats on the launch, @reddyourmind, @chineikoro, @joinonu!”

YCombinator is a technology startup accelerator based in the USA and founded in March 2005. It has launched over 3500 startups since, including Airbnb, Quora, Dropbox, and more.

The new founders are open to a 15-minute demo chat and have also opened a waitlist for early access to the Onu platform on their website joinonu.com.
