Gmail is moving political campaign emails away from the spam folder!

Gmail

Gmail is shaking up its regulations on email marketing as political campaigns intensify in some parts. Previously, the mailing service from Google permitted users to keep political campaign emails in their spam. But now the regulations regarding this issue are changing and users will no longer be able to tag such emails as spam.

This new program from Google is rather controversial, as certain users may not be comfortable receiving political campaign emails direct to their inbox. Regardless of how users could react, Google is optimistic about moving on with this new regulation saying users will be able to unsubscribe from the emails. This pro-political campaign emails will be available only in the western region for now but could spread to other regions such as Africa in future.

Google says that this program will not be “biased” toward one political party and to prove this, the company opened the doors for all parties to register under its “pilot program.”

It might only be a matter of time before other political parties across the world see this and decide to jump on it. Political campaigns might just step off the podium and into your primary Gmail inbox. We will closely monitor the progress of this campaign by Gmail in the western region. Its “success or failure” could determine deployment of the product locally.

In 2013, Gmail introduced categories to your email filtering direct mails from social mails, promotions, etc.
