Google and FG Launch Creative Training for 2,500 Nigerians

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy (FMACCE), has partnered with Google to introduce a new creative training initiative that will empower 2,500 young Nigerians, with plans to expand to 10,000. This collaboration marks a significant step in boosting the nation’s creative economy.

The program, delivered by Del York Creative Academy, is a major part of FMACCE’s Creative Leap Acceleration Programme (CLAP), which focuses on skills development, innovation, and public-private partnerships in Nigeria’s creative sector. Spearheaded by FMACCE and executed by the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), this initiative aims to equip aspiring creatives with vital skills and opportunities to drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s creative industry.

Training Opportunities for Participants

Through this collaboration with Google and Del York Creative Academy, participants will receive practical training in various fields, including music, film, animation, content creation, live production, and audio. These fields are crucial for young Nigerians seeking to build careers in the creative economy.

Minister Hannatu Musa-Musawa of FMACCE expressed her excitement about the creative training initiative, stating, “This partnership underscores our commitment to nurturing Nigeria’s creative talent. By empowering our youth with skills to thrive in the creative industries, we are not only creating jobs but also positioning Nigeria as a global leader in cultural exports.”

The six-week training will equip participants with foundational skills in visual storytelling and creative video content production. Areas covered will include storyboarding, shooting, editing, motion graphics, and AI integration in the creative process. A select group will also engage in a three-week mentorship, culminating in a high-quality visual content project.

Importance of the Initiative

Olumide Falegan, Manager of EMEA Music & Culture at Google SSA, highlighted the initiative’s impact, saying, “This creative training initiative recognizes the often-overlooked talent in our industries. By empowering 2,500 professionals, and eventually expanding to 10,000, we are investing in Africa’s future cultural influence and economic growth.”

Linus Idahosa, Executive Chairman and CEO of Del York Group, emphasized that the partnership with Google will bridge the gap between creative practitioners and corporate stakeholders. By equipping young Nigerians with relevant skills, the initiative will foster creative entrepreneurs and enhance business growth.

Applications opened on October 8th and will close on October 30th, 2024. Interested participants can register via the Del York Creative Academy portal to be part of this exciting opportunity.
