Google recently announced the appointment of Zimbabwean-American consultant, researcher, James Manyika as its first Senior Vice President of Technology and Society.
Manyika will be working on the impact of technology on society and the environment.
The news of his appointment was revealed by Sundar Pichai, Alphabet’s CEO. “I’m thrilled that James Manyika will be joining Google’s leadership team,” Pichai said in a statement.
“He’s spent decades working at the intersection of technology and society and has advised a number of businesses, academic institutions, and governments along the way.”

Manyika is revered for his research into topics such as artificial intelligence, robotics
automation, and the future of work. He obtained his first degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Zimbabwe and currently holds two Masters degrees and a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford.
Manyinka dedicated 28 years of his life working at McKinsey as Senior Partner and Chairman of the McKinsey Global Institute, a company that provides a deeper understanding of the evolution of the global economy and provides a fact base that helps leaders in commercial, public, and social sectors.
Right to say that Manyika has functioned as an advisor to many CEOs and founders of tech companies niched in business and innovation.
For his new role at Google, he’s expected to explore tech’s impact on society and redirects Google’s perspective on subjects he’s known for such as Artificial Intelligence, the future of work, and sustainability.
