Google Keyboard, Gboard Let’s You Type Nigerian Languages

It’s no more news that the CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai, visited Nigeria for the first time on the third day of the #GoogleforNigeria event, not to mention that he danced to Small Doctor’s latest song; “Penalty” or that Google made some mind blowing announcements like the Gboard that will soon go viral in Nigeria.

Starting off with the most amazing announcement, the Gboard. The Gboard is Google’s keyboard and although it is already available for use on Andriod phones, Google said the keyboard now allows you type in Nigerian Languages like Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo.

The keyboard will also be readily available on Google’s Andriod phone “Fritel ICE 2.” Google revealed that in partnership with MTN and TD, it will be launching the 3G Andriod phone that will come with the latest Andriod and Google features like the “Google play protect ” to ensure the security of devices, data and apps, The device will be obtainable for thirteen thousand Naira.

Another feature announced is “posts on Google” which Google says will enable musicians and entertainers to post updates, images and videos directly on Google. Nigeria is the third country where “posts on Google” has been introduced and Google says that some popular Nigeria artists are already using it.

Talking of interests, Google says it’s bringing “Feed,” Found on Google app’s home page, “feed” is said to help find relevant, useful content and articles from around the web and is constantly refreshed so you never go back to old contents.

One very important aspect Google also seeks to look into is the Health sector. Google revealed that one in every 20 searches are health related and so Google has partnered with the University of Ibadan to give locally tailored health searched answers to those searches and by the end of 2017, it will be launching more than eight hundred knowledge carts detailing common symptoms and treatments for the most “prevalent” health conditions in Nigeria.

Google then went on to announce three pretty cool enhancements on the Google map in Nigeria. First of all is on address search; Google says it has added thousands of new addresses to places like Ikeja, Ikoyi, Victoria Island and a lot more places on the Google map, secondly, Google announced that it has added more than a million business and residential buildings in places like Ikate, Surulere, Yaba and many other places. Lastly and very excitedly too, Google announced that Google street view is now Nigeria! with more than ten thousand kilometres of beautiful images of Lagos to be viewed on Google.

Finally, Google said it’s building its next app inspired by the next generation of internet users and it’s called YouTube Go. The app will be fully accessible by the end of this year Google revealed, but as for now, it’s still being tested.
