Google has released the new Operating system Android 7.0 Nougat on Aug. 22. As expected, the first users get this new update are the owners of the Nexus devices.
Those who own the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and Android One would receive an update to take their devices to Android 7.0 Nougat. Along with this, those who enrolled their devices in the Android Beta Program will in the future receive the latest version of Google’s latest mobile operating system.
This new upgrade is however not yet available to owners of other Android device as they would have to wait for their device manufacturers to release the update.
Here are a few features to expect from the new Google Nougat Operating system.
Data Saver
The Data Saver feature enables user restrict apps from using mobile data in the background. The feature can be accessed with the Quick Settings menu or through the Data Usage option in Settings. Users can also choose which apps will not be able to send or receive data in the background while the feature is enabled, and even when using the chosen apps, it will not consume heavy data.
Doze Update
Doze, which originally came with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, will be receiving an update in Android 7.0 Nougat. Along with placing the device in a semi-sleep mode to conserve battery if it is not in use for a long period of time, will now work while the user is on the move.
Multi-Window
The Nougat 7.0 comes with a multi-window feature which will allow users to display two apps simultaneously on their screen. This is enabled by pressing and holding the first app on the recent apps screen, when a prompt is displayed it would then be dragged to one side of the screen. Users can then open another app on the other window with the recent apps screen on, tapping on the app’s icon on the Home screen.
This might not work with all phones but when it does, it can work in landscape and portrait orientations.
Notifications
The new bundle Notifications feature helps users see all notifications released by an app. They can also use the new Direct Reply feature to reply to messages directly from notifications and will no longer have to launch their messaging app.
This new update also allows users press and hold on notifications to call up the app’s settings, or silence all other notifications coming from the app.
For the notification shade, users will also be allowed to customize the Quick Settings tiles, to make the ones that they use most often to be at the most accessible location.
Other features which showed an uograde include, Virtual Reality, Keyboard Themes, Faster installation and less space for apps, cleaner recents menu, Neko Atsume clone easter egg, etc.
According to Android developer’s blog, work is already in place to release the first maintenance version of Android 7.0 Nougat.
