Password protecting a Word file is a great way to add an extra layer of protection to documents containing sensitive data or information .
It may not be 100% tamper-proof, but it will make it much harder for anyone to access the files without finding out the password first.

Word has an effective built-in password protection system.
This can be utilized fora quick and effective protection of your files.
Step 1: Open the Word document that you want to secure with a password. Then, select File, followed by Info then click on Protect Document
Step 2: To protect a file, you can choose one of three options ;
- makie the file Read Only, so that it can no longer be edited, or
- control the changes that are allowed to be made to the document moving forward or
- Encrypt with Password.
Click on the third option, Encrypt with Password
Step 3: Type in the password that you want the file to have.
Pay close attention to the password.
Think of a password you can easily remember, or better yet, save the password in your favorite password manager.
If you lose the password you will almost certainly lose access to this file and it will be hard to recover.
Step 4: At the prompt, type in the password . Double check to be sure it is the intended password ,then select OK.
Step 5: The file is now password protected.
To open it, you will need the password.
At the prompt requesting for password, type it in, click on the Enter or the OK button.
You can then access and use the file .
