Last year, Apple launched the Apple AirTag. The product wasn’t the first of its kind, as certain Tile tracking devices had already been in existence. The vision of the AirTag is simple, to help users easily find their stuff that goes missing. At just $30 this device can help you find whatever you attach it to, and it is becoming more available here in Nigeria.
Sadly though, stalking via tracking devices has become more rampant in areas around the world. The instances are sometimes perplexing with predators using devices like the AirTag to trail their victims. As a safety measure, here is how to protect yourself from being tracked with said devices.
Considering the size of this device, it can easily slip between your personal belongings. Bags, purses, cars, this coin-sized device can perfectly slip into almost anything. Once the device is with you or on you, its owner can tell your exact location at any given time from their iPhone.
To protect yourself from Apple AirTag stalkers, first, you need to keep the “Item Safety Feature” on your find my app at all times. If this feature is off, you won’t be able to tell if an AirTag that isn’t yours is following you.
Once you have this feature on, the heavy lifting moves back to Apple. With Item Safety on, your iPhone will notify you when an unknown AirTag is following you. You’d get a notification on your device which will read “AirTag found moving with you.” If you get this notification, you need to act fast and get the AirTag off you.
Head over to your “find my app” and select the AirTag and tap continue. This will bring up a window that’d help you play sounds in the AirTag, so you can find it and get rid of it. I advise that you also allow your “find my app” to send you time-sensitive notifications if you use focus mode. This will help you get notifications of any unknown AirTag following you even when you’re enjoying your downtime.
