Apple’s iCloud Keychain is a password management tool that allows users to create, store, and sync passwords for all their Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It is a secure and convenient way to keep track of all passwords, credit card information and other sensitive data.
- To get started with iCloud Keychain, signed in to iCloud on all your Apple devices. Then, follow these steps:
- On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > (your name) > iCloud > Keychain, and toggle on the switch for iCloud Keychain.
- If you’re asked to set up a passcode, create a four-digit passcode or use Touch ID or Face ID to verify your identity.
- Next, you’ll be prompted to create a Security Code. This code is used to access your saved passwords on a new device. Choose a memorable code that is at least 6 digits long.
- If you already have saved passwords in Safari, you’ll be asked if you want to add them to iCloud Keychain. Tap Yes to transfer your passwords.
Once the user has set up iCloud Keychain, it will automatically sync their saved passwords and credit card information across all their Apple devices. The user can access their saved passwords in Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Website & App Passwords.
According to Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, the feature is all about making the user experience as secure as possible: “We do think that people want us to help them keep their lives private. We see that privacy is a fundamental human right that people have. We are going to do everything that we can to help maintain that trust.”
One of the practical features of iCloud Keychain is that it can generate strong and unique passwords. When the user creates a new account on a website or in an app, iCloud Keychain offers to generate a strong password and save it for future use. To use this feature, simply tap Use Strong Password when prompted to create a new password.
This new password manager is more secure than traditional password managers. It uses 256-bit AES encryption to ensure that users’ passwords are protected from hackers.
As Steve Jobs said, “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” With the release of the all-in-one password manager, Apple has once again proven itself to be a leader in the tech world.
