News about Google cutting off business with Huawei is one of the most striking events in the Android world as it affects all Huawei users globally. Google decided to stop licensing its Android operating system to the Chinese telecommunications firm, in order to comply with a U.S. trade blacklist.
At the start of the year, the Chinese company started out with massive growth and was on the way to being the world’s number one phone maker at the end of 2019. Without Google’s Android support, however, is this still possible?
What this means for Huawei Users
- Huawei will now lose access to Android updates.
- Huawei’s new phones will also lose access to proprietary apps like the Google Play app store, Gmail and YouTube.
- Google said people with existing Huawei devices will still be able to use Google apps and download updates for them.
Huawei Nigeria however, sent a statement to TechCity:
Huawei is the unparalleled leader in 5G. We are ready and willing to engage with the US government and come up with effective measures to ensure product security. Restricting Huawei from doing business in the US will not make the US more secure or stronger; instead, this will only serve to limit the US to inferior yet more expensive alternatives, leaving the US lagging behind in 5G deployment, and eventually harming the interests of US companies and consumers. In addition, unreasonable restrictions will infringe upon Huawei’s rights and raise other serious legal issues.
The telecommunications company has announced that it will seek remedies and find a solution to this case.
