Instagram Launches New “Profile Card” Feature

Instagram is rolling out its new “profile card” feature, a digital business card designed to simplify how users share their profiles. This launch follows a few months of testing with select creators, and the feature is now available to all users globally.

With the profile card feature, users no longer need to send their handle to others. Instead, they can simply share the card, making it easier to connect with new people and grow networks. The card allows users to showcase information from their Instagram profile, including their bio, profile picture, and any links or music they’ve added.

Two-Sided Design for More Engagement

The profile card has two sides: one side is a shareable card containing your profile details, while the other side features a QR code that links directly to your account. Users can also customize the background of their card with an image to better express themselves. This feature is aimed at people looking to market themselves, attract potential collaborators, or simply make new friends.

Instagram introduced this feature in response to increasing numbers of Gen Zers using their Instagram profiles as personal resumes. According to Meta, a recent survey found that more than half of Gen Zers aim to become influencers. By launching the profile card, Instagram is helping them present their personal brands more effectively.

Although Instagram has allowed users to share profiles via QR codes since 2018, the new profile cards offer a more detailed way of doing so. By offering a glimpse into your interests and content, the cards provide more potential for connection than a simple QR code would.
