iOS 9 features Apple ‘stole’ from Android

It’s always hilarious to watch the competition between the iOS users and the Android users. It is always a battle each time any of the system developers releases a device or introduces an upgrade, the other party is likely to seek for something that is accredited to them just so that they state how superior or innovative they are to the ‘copycat’.

In this case, Apple is at the receiving end with the release of the iOS 9 which Android users have said contains features that were clearly stolen from them. GottaBe Mobile lists 10 of such features and they include;

Low Power saving mode

Android users have been able to use this feature for about 3 years now and with the 5.0 Lollipop which was introduced last year, allowing Android users to save the last 10-20 % of their battery life for important stuff like calls or text messages.

Picture-in-Picture video

Just like multi tasking, this allows you to resize a video by minimizing it so that you have another part of the screen to do some other work. Samsung had this feature as far back as the Galaxy S3.

New notes app

Wait a minute, how come iOS users never had this feature? What then is the fuss about the apple because even on my Samsung Galaxy2 tab, I could do this so easily and even now with the Memo app on the Samsung Galaxy A5. Well, welcome on board to the iOS9 users who will now be able to take down notes, make voice notes and save it on that app or even take a snap shot.

Spotlight suggestions

We can’t clearly say this is an Android feature but it is something that Google users have had access to for a long time and Android users have been able to enjoy as 3rd party users. From the report that we read, it is clear that Google has had this feature running for about 2 years now.

Split Screen mode

Now if the report is anything to go by, it means that iOS will be experiencing this feature for the first time with the introduction of the iOS9. As an Android user, I have seen this on a few Samsung Galaxy tablets and even the latest of its mobile phones, the Samsung Edge 6.  This feature enables you to multi task by opening 2 or more apps at the same time. Unfortunately for the iOS users, this feature is still only available on the iPad Air2 even with the upgrade.

News app

Personally, I have been enjoying this feature on the Samsung Galaxy A5 with the Flipboard and on the iOS9, you can get that on an app called News. It helps to source tons of news content all in one place.

Siri’s proactive features

This feature enables things that you do often to pop up and helps you to start certain applications like turning on the wifi. You can even ask it to do certain tasks for you which is what we presume Windows 10 promises with the Personal Assistant. Google Now does most of these things and more but with iOS, it is more secure though seeing that it doesn’t require your Apple ID unlike Android that requires access to your Gmail account.

Keyboard shortcuts

This application enables you to attach files right from the keyboard. Unfortunately, I can’t even remember using a Samsung device that didn’t have this feature. It’s good to know that iOS9 users can now enjoy this thanks to Android once again who dropped the innovation for them to follow.

Apple maps

iOS9 users can now get directions for public transportation but as Android users know, Google has had this since 2011.

What more can I say but thank you Android for being steps ahead in technological advancement and to the iOS users, we are glad to share.
