A new iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max is rarely the last thing you buy. Cases, screen protectors, chargers, MagSafe stands, wallets, power banks and cables all compete for a spot in your basket. You do not need most of them. These are the iPhone 18 accessories worth buying first, and the ones you can safely skip.
The short version
Start with a case, and keep the USB-C charger and cable you already own if they work. Add MagSafe extras only when your routine calls for them.
- A case with MagSafe is the one accessory almost everyone should buy. It protects the phone and still works with magnetic chargers, stands and mounts.
- A screen protector is optional. It is useful if you are hard on your phone, but not essential.
- You probably do not need a new charger. Any good USB-C adapter you already own will charge the phone.
- A magnetic power bank is worth it only if you spend long days away from a socket.
- Skip camera lens protectors and big accessory bundles. A good case with a raised edge already protects the cameras.

1. A case: the accessory almost everyone needs
A case is the easiest accessory to justify. A cracked screen or back costs far more to repair than a decent case costs to buy, and you do not need Apple’s own. Apple sells Silicone, TechWoven and Clear cases with MagSafe for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max on its accessories store, and other brands offer everything from slim shells to rugged cases.
Match the protection to how you live. If your phone mostly sits on a desk or in your hand, a slim case is enough. If you drop it often, carry it with keys or work somewhere it can take a knock, the extra bulk of a rugged case is worth it.
The one feature to insist on is MagSafe. A MagSafe case has magnets built in, so chargers, stands, wallets and car mounts still snap on without taking the case off.
2. A screen protector: optional, but sensible
iPhone screens are tougher than they used to be, but glass is still glass. A well-fitted tempered glass protector adds a layer against scratches and cracks, and it does not need to be expensive. What matters is that it lines up properly and does not get in the way of the front camera or touch response.
Skip if: you dislike the feel of a protector and can live with the odd scratch.
3. A charger: you probably already have one
This is where people waste money. If you already own a USB-C power adapter that works, keep using it. Apple sells a 20W USB-C Power Adapter, a 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter and a 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max, and Anker, Belkin and others sell alternatives.
If you do need a new one, a compact adapter with two USB-C ports is the most useful choice, because it can charge your phone and your earbuds or watch at the same time.
4. A cable: one good one is enough
The iPhone 18 Pro uses USB-C, so any decent USB-C cable will charge it. Apple sells 60W and 240W cables, but a cable rated for far more power than the phone can take will not charge it any faster. The phone, charger and cable all have to support the same charging standard.
5. MagSafe accessories: useful, if you will use them
MagSafe is one of the few accessory systems that changes how you use the phone. A magnetic charger snaps into place, a stand keeps the screen visible while it charges, and a car mount holds the phone without a clamp. Apple sells its MagSafe Charger in 1m and 2m lengths, and Belkin, Anker, mophie, Twelve South and others make compatible chargers, stands and mounts.
Skip if: you are happy charging with a cable. Wireless charging is a convenience, not a requirement.
6. A power bank: only if you are often away from a socket
If you work from home or sit near a charger all day, you do not need one. If you travel, commute for hours or spend whole days at events, a magnetic power bank that clips onto the back of the phone is very handy.
The downside: it makes the phone much heavier. Treat it as a travel accessory, not something to leave attached all day.
7. A MagSafe wallet: convenient for light carriers
If you only carry an ID and a card or two, a magnetic wallet on the back of your phone can replace your normal wallet. Apple sells a FineWoven Wallet with MagSafe, and other brands make versions with built-in stands or Find My tracking.
The downside: it can slide off in a tight pocket, and it adds bulk to something you handle all day. Buy one if it fits your routine, not to complete a set.
Accessories you can skip
- Camera lens protectors. A case with a raised edge around the cameras already protects them, and a cheap lens cover can add glare or blur to your photos.
- Big accessory bundles. Ten items in one box looks like a deal, but not if you never use half of them.
- Expensive cables and extra chargers when the ones you own already work.
- Phone grips and charging stands unless you have a reason for them. A grip helps if you struggle to hold a large phone one-handed, and a stand is useful mainly if you work at a desk.

- A good case with MagSafe. Pick the level of protection that suits you.
- A USB-C charger. Keep the one you have if it works.
- A USB-C cable. Add a second one for work, the car or a travel bag if it helps.

In plain terms: everything else can wait until you know how you use the phone. If you travel, add a power bank. If you work at a desk, try a stand. If you drive a lot, a magnetic car mount is worth it. The best accessories are the ones that solve a problem you actually have.
