LG curved smartphone may be unveiled very soon. The electronics giant plans to unveil its own version of a curved display screen in November. There have been previous hints as per the company’s work with OLED screen technology. It seems curved screen smartphones are the latest trend, or possibly, the next big thing, in the technology world as Samsung is also set to unveil its curved smartphone this October.
LG had earlier released a press statement in May and hinted about the curved display technology and then introduced a curved 55-inch OLED TV panel and 5-inch plastic OLED panel as a demonstration at a trade show (SID 2013).
Cnet’s Jessica Dolcourt has explained that a flexible display doesn’t mean the phone will be able to bend or flex. Rather, the display is set at a curved – but stationary – position. The curve is dramatic enough to comfortably fit around your face but not so angular that it looks weird.
Large screen televisions already have curved display units in commercial quantities, being spearheaded by Samsung and LG Electronics selling curved OLED TV sets. The competition simply continues between the two domestic rivals. Hopefully this should breed more creativity in their upcoming products.
