LG and Motorola are the manufacturers to reveal the LG G Watch and the Moto 360, the first smartwatches to run the Android Wear which is the new version of Google’s operating system.
On Tuesday, Google announced the new operating system for wearables, this was immediately followed by announcement from LG and Motorola. Motorola’s design of the Moto 360 follows the traditional circular face while LG’s G Watch smartwatch features a square watch-face typical of most smartwatches.
Both devices will always be listening and will respond to the “OK Google” command to deliver information through the Google Now interface. It will allow you to retrieve information such as live scores, cinema times or just find out how tall the Eiffel Tower is, as well as “get stuff done like scheduling an appointment, sending a text, setting an alarm or taking a note.
On its blog, Motorola is hyping what it calls “premium materials” and says the Moto 360 will be available in a variety of styles. The company also announced that it wanted to celebrate the history of the design “as we reimagined the wristwatch for the future.”.
LG has said the G Watch will be compatible with a variety of Android smartphones and is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2014.
Google announced that it is working with other manufacturers like Samsung, Asus, HTC and fashion brand Fossil Group to release Android Wear smartwatches in the coming months.
