In a bid to increase internet penetration in the Central African region, MainOne and CAMTEL (Cameroon Telecommunications Corporation) – the national telecommunications and Internet service provider in Cameroon have begun talks to reach a Joint Venture Agreement.
This proposed partnership builds on the long-standing relationship between CAMTEL, MainOne and Huawei Marine Networks, since the successful roll-out of the world-class submarine cable network extension, from MainOne’s Cable Landing Station in Lagos, Nigeria to Kribi, Cameroon, to improve internet access in Cameroon, Chad and other parts of Central Africa.
While speaking about another possible partnership between both companies, MainOne’s Chief Executive Officer, Funke Opeke reiterated the company’s vision for a connected West Africa. “MainOne supports initiatives to expedite the penetration of reliable and affordable broadband internet services in the West African region, aimed at increased economic development and business growth. We have, and will continue to invest significantly in attempts to induce accelerated broadband access, which is part of our strategy to boost the economic and commercial development of West Africa” She said.
CAMTEL’s Director General, David Nkoto Emane, who led the delegation of CAMTEL employees during a courtesy visit to MainOne’s office also spoke about his company’s expansion efforts to boost Cameroon low broadband penetration.
