Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram appears to be experimenting with a novel feature known as ‘AI friend.’
This feature allows users to create their very own customizable AI-powered imaginary friend.
According to a post by Alessandro Paluzzi on X, Instagram’s AI friend will have the capability to “answer questions, brainstorm ideas, and engage in discussions about challenges.
Based on the screenshots shared by Paluzzi, it seems that users will have the ability to customize various aspects of their AI friend, including gender and age.
It is uncertain whether Meta has plans to release this new feature, because while the concept may seem entertaining, there are inherent risks associated with AI-powered chatbots.
Earlier this year, Snapchat introduced ‘My AI,’ a feature similar oo Instagram’s AI friend, enabling users to seek guidance on various topics, however, ‘My AI’ faced significant backlash just days later when reports emerged of it providing inappropriate advice to minors.
