Nigerian content creators will now be able to make earnings off their contents on Meta platforms.
Social media giant, Meta, has revealed that Nigerian creators can now monetise their contents on its platforms.
This new development will take effect starting from June 2024.
President of Global Affairs at Meta, Sir Nick Clegg , revealed this on the visit of Meta Inc delegates to the Nigerian President.
Mera’s visit to Nigeria is part of a week-long visit to some of its important African markets including South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria.
Sir Clegg also hosted some of Nigeria’s top creators in their Lagos office on Friday.
According to the company, monetization features like “ Ads on reels” , instagram stars and gifts will now be open to Nigerian creators.
The Earning Features
Ads on Reels is a performance-based program that pays creators according to volume of engagements on their reels.
Content creators in America, Australia, Canada and South Korea were the first to use the feature when it was launched last year.
Instagram Gifts is a feature that allows creators to earn money from their audience, both followers and non-followers.
A creator’s audience can show their appreciation by sending virtual gifts on their reels.
Instagram Stars is a feature that viewers can use to send gifts to creators. Viewers and fans purchase stars and use them to send gifts,
Instagram converts the stars into revenue payable on a monthly basis to the creator.
Every star is equivalent to $.01 USD.
According to TechCabal, Clagg acknowledged the versatility of Nigerian creators. He said;
“Nigerian creators have global reach,”
Confirming the opening new earning tools , he said that creators will soon have “the ability to run ads in-stream and use other tools such as Instagram stars and gifts that are available to creators elsewhere in the world.”
