Microsoft Lumia 650 now available in Nigeria

The Lumia 650 is Microsoft’s cheaper alternative to its current flagships (the 950 and 950XL) and it is now available for purchase in Nigeria.

Currently available at all accredited Microsoft stores through out the country, the Lumia 650 is a mid-range device that looks to be the go to phone for users seeking their first Windows phone experience.

The Lumia 650 is a 5-inch device complete with a 720×1280 AMOLED screen and a removable plastic back cover. It comes with a 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP selfie camera. The 650 houses a single SIM slot, a microSD slot (expandable to up to 200 GB), 16 GB of internal storage and a removable 2000mAh battery. The 650 is also powered by a Snapdragon 212 CPU, 1 GB of RAM and runs on the Window’s 10, just like the 950 and 950XL.

However, even though Microsoft spoke about the business and enterprise capabilities of the device during this year’s MWC, the 650 may not be compelling enough for savvy business people as it does not support Continuum. Another limitation of the 650 is that it lacks a USB-C port required to use the Microsoft Display Dock accessory, but instead has a micro USB for charging and connectivity.

The Lumia 650 does not come with Window Hello; that cool feature that uses the front-facing camera to unlock the phone by scanning the user’s eyes. Including both features would have in some way increased the cost of the device so I’m not at all surprised.

So if you’re looking to own a Windows phone and the 950 and 950XL aren’t within your budget, the 650 is a brand new budget alternative you should consider.
