Microsoft recently announced the two devices – Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 – at a press event in New York. They both come with kickstand positions, faster processors, better graphics, Windows 8-powered tablets and a load of new accessories.
There’s a 3.5MP front camera and a 5MP rear camera. The USB port has been upgraded to version 3.0 for faster data transfer and you can also make use of the microSD card slot and a display out port on the tablet itself. The Pro 2 has improved color handling and will come in a new 512GB version for those that need the storage space.
The tablet will be offered in different configurations. The 64GB and 128GB models will come with 4GB of RAM, while the Pro 2s with storage space of 256GB or 512GB will sport 8GB of RAM. All owners of the Surface Pro 2 owners will get an additional 200GB of SkyDrive storage for free with their tablet, plus a year of free voice calling to landlines in over 60 countries via Skype.
The tablet will operate on Windows 8.1, though there might be some limitations. It also have a redesigned kickstand with not one but two positions – the kickstand classic position of 24 degrees and a new position that angles the tablet at around 40 degrees. This will sure make it easier to use on the laps.
The Surface Pro 2 will be made available in select countries around the world from 22nd of October and additional markets will be announced in the coming months.
