Mobile Phones Don’t Cause Brain Cancer, or do they?

Stop using mobile phones, they cause brain cancer! [Yes they do….no they do not……they do……they do not!] Okay, okay, enough of the mind conflict. We’ve heard so many times that mobile phones do cause cancer and then fry your brain, and then you die [that’s what my momma told me]. Well good news, there’s no connection between increasing usage of cell phones and cases of brain cancer. At least, that was the conclusion made by researchers in the University of Sydney, Australia.

So here’s what they did: the researchers looked at 34,000 people that were diagnosed with brain cancer between 1982-2013 and national mobile phone usage data between 1987-2012. They found out that mobile phone usage has increased from 10% to more than 90% today. Also, brain cancer occurrence between 1982 and 2013 has not increased in any age group except those aged 70-84. But this increase started in 1982 even before mobile phones were introduced in Australia. The researchers also said that this increase was likely due to some improvements made in diagnosing the disease. [phew, and I really thought I was going to die].

But wait, these guys are saying mobile phones don’t cause cancer but another recent study claims that cell phone usage exceeding 15 hours per month can increase risk of brain cancer. So which one should we go with? Don’t ask me, but if you insist, I think I’d go with the Australian guys.
