More manufacturers embrace eco-friendly production of smartphones

Nokia X30 5G eco-friendly approach

Over the past few years, many smartphone manufacturers have taken an eco-friendly approach with their packaging. The most popular is the removal of the charger from the smartphone box. Apple’s iPhone 12 series were the first to introduce this trend, and other brands like Samsung followed through.

But, the major issue with the approach to the environment Apple took with its new packaging is that it leaves out some important accessories. With this move, buyers will need to purchase at least two items when getting a new smartphone, the phone and the charger (if their previous charger goes bad). Now, other brands such as Nokia are taking a different eco-friendly approach with their packaging.

With the launch of Nokia’s new set of devices (which will soon be available locally), the company took things a step further. The packaging of these smartphones makes use of easily composable material while coming with all necessary accessories. In place of the white box most Nokia devices come with, the company is switching to an eco-friendly brown box (in most regions).

Also, the new Motorola Edge 30 Neo makes use of similar packaging. Both Nokia and Motorola make use of recycled aluminium and plastic on the body and frame of their new devices. All of this is in a bid to help drive a more sustainable planet with the use of recycled waste.

Most smartphone brands will also make a shift to the use of recyclable materials on both the device and its packaging, just like Samsung, Nokia and Motorola are doing. With brands taking more responsibility as to how their products contribute to pollution in the environment, we can dream of a pollution-free environment. There is more to be done to take an eco-friendly approach to the manufacturing and distribution of the gadgets we use daily.
