NCC Consumer Town Hall Meeting held in Osun state

Iwo, a major city in Osun state over the weekend hosted the Consumer Town Hall Meeting organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). At the meeting, NCC answered several concerns of subscribers including how to deal with issue of unsolicited messages.

According to the Director of the NCC, Maryam Bayi, new technology that has enabled individuals to operate on the internet at will has contributed to the unsolicited messages from the service providers. She however disclosed that the commission has created avenues for telecom consumers to lodge their complaints about the services of their telecom provider to the commission.

She said NCC has a feedback mechanism to ensure that the interests of telecom consumers are protected.

Concerning concerns over the health impacts of telecoms mast, the Deputy Director of Consumer Affair Bureau of NCC, Dr. Femi Atoyebi, Bayi said the radiation emanating from telecom masts is not harmful to human health, warning people not to take the advantage and climb the mast.

He said: “Research has not in any way shown that telecom masts discharge harmful radiation that is harmful to human health. He said masts antennas are set so high from the ground all in the bid to eliminate human contact and remove any risk of human exposure.”
