Once again, The Nigerian Communications Commission and MTN Nigeria are in the News. This time however, it’s because the NCC has lifted the ban on regulatory services which it placed on MTN Nigeria for several regulatory infractions.
It must however be noted that the lifting of this ban has got nothing to do with the N1.04Trillion fine imposed on MTN Nigeria by the NCC in the 4th quarter of 2015, for failure to deactivate 5.2million improperly registered SIM cards.
The letter lifting the suspension of regulatory services placed on MTN signed by Mr. Efosa Idehen, Head, Compliance, Monitoring/Enforcement and Mrs. Yetunde Akinloye, Head, Legal & Regulatory Services, specifically stated that the ban was lifted because MTN had addressed all the infractions and had also sent several letters to the NCC requesting for this concession.
The letter however ended with the Commission warning MTN Nigeria to ensure to obey all the terms and conditions of the Licenses issued the company in order to avoid additional sanctions of any kind.
